Luca Galoppi
I’ve just begun my final year of a quantity surveying degree after taking a summer internship with Heidelberg Materials.
It’s fair to say the internship exceeded my expectations.
It was great to be in the office around other people working in the industry.
I wasn’t seen as a burden, and the work I did was really appreciated.
I learnt about all aspects of quantity surveying - the bill of quantities, compensation events, chainage, dips.
The internship gave me a much broader understanding of not just quantity surveying but what the builders were doing, so I was able to apply myself better.
You can read so many books, but until you’re actually doing the work you’re never going to understand what it takes.
The internship has compounded my interest in quantity surveying 100 per cent.
