HGV driving apprenticeship

Our new HGV driving apprenticeship scheme offers an exciting opportunity for anyone looking to kick-start a driving career in the industry, plus gain experience across business.

We’re looking for trainee HGV drivers to join our 15-month programme, where apprentices are paid to obtain their HGV Licence while gaining knowledge, skills and experience in all aspects of driving and operating one of our Cat C vehicles.

The programme 

  • Complete a 15-month urban driver apprenticeship and Hanson program
  • Attain the required knowledge, skills behaviours, and experience in all aspects of HGV driving of a Cat C vehicle
  • Thorough knowledge of drivers hours legislation, tachograph procedures, transport law, working time directive, and relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation
  • To learn to drive and operate a company HGV ensuring that Hanson products are delivered to customers in a timely, efficient, and courteous manner.
  • The company HGV driver apprentice is required to complete their apprenticeship and Hanson programme within the required timeframes and to the required standard. 
  • You will be working as part of a team with supervision in an efficient manner whilst maintaining excellent standards and attention to detail. 
  • Duties will include developing the required knowledge, skills, and behaviours of the apprenticeship, and ensuring that all health and safety, working time directive, and road transport regulatory requirements are complied with as part of the daily routine.

  • Starting salary of £19,136.00 per annum
  • Salary increases after 6 months and objectives identified and achieved, £21,881.60 per annum
  • Salary increases between months 8/10 and objectives identified and achieved, £24,606.40 per annum
  • On completion of the full course (15 months) salary of £30,771.00 per annum.

Requirements

No HGV driving experience or HGV licences are required for this position, as full training will be provided. However, here is what you will need to be considered:

  • Full UK drivers licence. 
  • Good level of education in Maths and English
  • Ability to work unsupervised and own initiative when required.
  • Ability to identify and report issues.
  • Motivated and enthusiastic to achieve results
  • A commitment to delivering the best possible customer service
  • Works well with colleagues and supports the team
  • You will be required to complete a study and apprenticeship programme. Successful completion will result in the Level 2 Urban Driver Apprenticeship, LGV Category C licence and Mineral Products Qualifications Council (MPQC)/EPIC cardholder
  • You will be required to commit to a blended learning package and allocated off the job training time during your working week to assist in your studies.
