Graduate Training Manager Nathan Ruegg
Education and initial career steps
I graduated from the University of Kent in 2023 with a degree in Accounting and Finance and I was keen to apply my academic knowledge in a practical setting. This scheme has provided me with just that opportunity because over my first two years, I will rotate across all five finance departments, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the finance side of the business. I am currently in my first year and have completed my first two rotations. I can confidently say that this graduate scheme has been an enriching and rewarding experience so far.
Mentorship and career development
Heidelberg Materials offers an inclusive environment and ensures everyone’s ideas are heard and valued, promoting innovation at every level. As a graduate I have received guidance from mentors, managers, and fellow graduates both from my cohort and from older graduates.
One of the unique aspects of this scheme is the opportunity for face-to-face meetings with different members of the executive team. These meetings, which often involve site visits, provide a platform to understand different areas of the business. This direct interaction with the leadership team is invaluable in gaining an insight into the strategic direction of the company.
The company is committed to creating an environment that encourages continuous learning and growth. They have sponsored my ACCA studies allowing me to progress my professional skills, demonstrating their investment in my career development.
I would encourage anyone looking for a challenging yet supportive environment in which to work, to apply to join the Heidelberg Materials team.
